Dixie – for Charity

This is the fourth in a series of images of rescued / abandoned animals that one family has brought into their family. The images were used to produce 3 large amalgamated images and then individually printed for the Humane society to use at their biggest fundraiser of the year ” The Bow Wow Ball.”

This is from one family member “Dixie was our little lady.  She was a Black Labrador and I found her wandering around on the Fort Alexander Indian Reserve one August day.  I was on my way home from work.  She was so skinny, she weighed only 12 pounds and she should have weighed 25.  Our veterinarian judged her age to be about 4 months.  Her little legs were like thin sticks.  I picked her up from the side of the road, wrapped her in a jacket, took her home after stopping to buy Pablum and baby food for her.  I bathed her, wrapped her in a towel, fed her and she slept for 6 hours.  She had fleas, lice and ear mites.  She was introduced to Candy, Bandit and Boo and everything went really well.  Candy took her under her wing…..she mothered her to pieces.  Dixie too was a fabulous dog and we had her for 14 years.  She was very attached to me and became my dog.”
